Lakeshore District Beltloop Camp

The Lakeshore District Beltloop Camp will be on Sat Jun 13 from 10 am to 4 pm. Boys can earn a beltloop and hour (for a maximum of 6 beltloops) and there are 9 different beltloops to choose from.

Much more information can be found at http://www.pack3024.org/BeltloopCamp.html

Currently planned beltloops are

Volleyball, Badminton, Fishing, Tennis, Basketball, Ultimate, Chess, Map & Compass and Astronomy

Right now the cost is yet to be determinded, but, if I had to hedge my bets it would be about $5 for team players and $10 for non team players.  There is no pre-registration (so, all you have to do is show up...and pray for good weather).

Merrill Dining Hall Collapses

The roof of the Merrill dining hall at Camp Gerber collapsed on Christmas Eve. No one was injured in the mishap, but a visibly shaken Santa Claus has vowed to eat fewer cookies while on his annual around-the-world trip bringing toys to all the good little scouts.

Cub Scout Fast Tracks

April 17, 2008

Dear Cub Scouter,

Last year the Central Region, BSA, introduced a Cub Scout advancement pilot program for a selected number of packs to try which focused on advancement happening in the den meeting with home reinforcement. This year the Central Region, BSA, has approved this new advancement pilot program to go to phase 2. This means that 20% of the packs can try this pilot program.

Here are some informational points:

If you answer yes to any of the following questions, Fast Tracks is just the program for you!

  • Do you often find it difficult to develop a high-quality program that holds boys’ interest?
  • Do the challenges facing today’s busy families mean missed advancement opportunities at home for your Cub Scouts?
  • Have you had boys drop out of Scouting because they were not progressing at a rate consistent with their peers?
  • Do you find yourself wading through a huge pile of books and materials each month to create a dynamic meeting?

Grand Rapids Catholic Committee on Scouting

The Roman Catholic Church has used the Scouting program since the early days of the Boy Scouts of America. It is one of the most extensive users of the BSA program. There are more than 330,000 Cub Scouts, Boy Scouts, and Venturers in more than 9,600 packs, troops, and crews under Catholic auspices, and an equal number of youth members in other Scouting units. Scouting is used in about one-third of the parishes in the United States and Religious emblems were developed to promote the spiritual phase of Scouting.

Scouts interested in earning their Catholic awards may purchase their activity books at the Scout shop, however for the Ad Altare Dei and Pope Pius XII awards, Boy Scouts and Venturers will need prior approval. Please contact Deacon Leo Ferguson at lferguson [at] saparish [dot] com or 616.453.8229 x105 to have a religious counselor assigned to you.

The Catholic religious emblems available to Scouts are:
