Boom-Whackers
Boomwackers can be made from golf club protector tubes. The ones we used were 34" long and 1.5" diameter. The tubes are available at sporting goods stores for about $1 each. To make 1 set of 8 boomwackers you will need 5 of the tubes. If you'd like 2 sets you only need 9. The tubes are a soft enough plastic that you could probably cut them with a good pair of scissors, but I went with the power tools and used a scroll saw. A band saw would also work well but Santa has not brought me one of those yet.
Cut the tubes as follows (some tubes are cut twice to make two boom-whackers)
Tube #1 C 24 13/16 inches
Tube #2 D 22 inches
Tube #3 E 19 1/2 inches
Tube #4 F 18 1/2 inches
Tube #5 G 16 inches
Tube #4 A 14 3/4 inches
Tube #3 B 12 3/4 inches
Tube #2 C 11 15/16 inches
If you're making a second set then use the leftover part of tube #5 to make another one the same length and cut tubes 6-9 just like 1-4.
To identify the pitch of each pipe, wrap one end with making tape and write the note... or better yet, use colored electrical tape or duct tape. (use a different color for each tube)

Re: Boom-Whackers
Darcy just sent me this YouTube video. The boys would get a kick out seeing their leaders doing something like this...
Or this one... You have 11 months to get ready for it...
