New Information for Summer Camps

Reminder about important new information from the Camp Leader's Handbook...

"Camp" also includes Cub Scout Day Camp.

New and Important Information

Here are a few items that leaders and participants should be aware of. Please plan for these changes!

  • All medication brought to camp must be in its original container. The medication must be issued to the Scout and have the dosage listed on the container. This rule is mandated by the STATE of MICHIGAN.
  • The State of Michigan requires that all adults attending camp must have a criminal background check. This means that you must have a current leader's application on file with the Boy Scouts of America. THIS APPLIES TO ALL LEADERS IN CAMP.
  • Your unit's top in camp leader must submit a DHS State registry clearance form to the Service Center by May 1 to comply with the new state law.
  • The Camp Director reserves the right to change the daily schedule at any time before or during your stay at camp. Situations such as emergencies, excessive heat or cold, as well as inclement weather may force changes in scheduled programs.
  • The DeVos Family Venture Base will be in full operation for the summer of 2010.
  • Recruit brand new unit of ten or more Scouts to be first time campers at Gerber Scout Reservation and we will waive one leader's fee for your unit during that camping season.
  • A new health form will be used in ALL CAMPS this summer. All Scouts and Leaders attending any camp must have a completed BSA Health Form with Gerald R. Ford Council special insert page. Our Cub Scout Camps do NOT require Part B. (the physical exam)

EDIT: Becky followed up with council and has obtained the DHS form referenced above.  I have attached it to this post.

Re: New Information for Summer Camps

For anyone that has gone to camp before, the registration is known, my question is about the next paragraph.  What is the DHS's State Clearance form?  Is this new?  I've gone to camp a couple times and do not remember this form.

Re: New Information for Summer Camps

That's correct, those attending Resident Camp had to have registration forms on file in the past.  What's new in that item is that it also applies to all adults attending Cub Scout Day Camp this year.

As for the DHS form, I have no idea what that is either.
