Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed to expose Venturing or Boy Scout leaders to activities and resources necessary
to operate a successful Venturing Ranger or Troop High Adventure program in several way:

 

  • Help Venturing Leaders and Scouter’s to safely conduct outdoor activities of a fun and challenging nature.
  • Provide an introduction to the resources necessary to successfully lead their Venturers and older Boy Scouts through a program of high adventure.
  • Familiarizes the Advisor with the Ranger program so that he or she can help the Venturer to meet the requirements of the Ranger Award.
  • This course is based on the Venturing Ranger requirements giving participants an exposure to outdoor/high adventure activities.

YOUTH LEADERSHIP ORIENTATION


A Workshop for Adult & Youth Leaders on the Troop Leadership Training Program

 

A great troop has an effective, well trained Troop Leadership Corps. In order for this to happen the youth leadership must be trained and guided by the adult leadership. This workshop is designed to help the Scoutmaster achieve the Aims of Scouting through effective implementation of the troop leadership training program. This workshop will provide discussion and introduce youth and adults to the BSA troop leadership training plan, including Troop Leadership Training, National Youth Leadership Training and Advanced National Youth Leadership Training.

 

How does my troop benefit from the workshop?

  • Boy led troops and the patrol method are one of the main methods of the Boy Scout Program.
  • Boy led troops accomplish the Aims of Scouting.
  • Boy led troops tend to be larger.
  • Boy led troops usually have better attendance.
  • Boy led troops are more apt to have more older Scouts.
  • A well led troop is fun for everyone.

How do the Youth Leaders benefit from the workshop?

  • The boys who are well-trained are better leaders.

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO)

Basic Adult Leader Outdoor Orientation (BALOO) is a training event that introduces leaders and parents to the skills needed to plan and conduct pack outdoor activities, particularly pack camping. A BALOO trained leader must be in attendance at
each pack overnighter.

The energetic course covers preparations, ceremonies, site selection, parent involvement, health and safety, equipment, meal preparation and planning, campfire program, and introduction to outdoor skills.

Council Outdoor Adult Skills Training

Council Outdoor Adult Skills Training is a combination of Webelos Leader Outdoor Training and Introduction to Outdoor Leader Skills and is for All Webelos Den Leaders, Scoutmasters, Assistant Scoutmasters, and Troop Committee Members.


This fun-filled weekend long course will teach you:

  • Knots & Lashing
  • Hiking Techniques
  • Leave No Trace Principles
  • The Patrol Method
  • Campsite Selection
  • Map & Compass Skills
  • Wood Tools Use & Care
  • Plant & Animal identification

Trainer's Edge Conference

The Trainer’s Edge curriculum is for anyone who will be delivering training at the pack, district or council level. Trainer’s Edge is required for any Scouter on the district and council training teams, Pack Trainers,as well as though serving on Wood Badge Staff. It is recommended for Commissioners and any Scout Leader who wants to learn to communicate ideas better.
