I am pleased to announce that a new day camp location has been secured for the Hopkins area.

Day camp will operate July 28-30, 8:30-3:15 PM, at the Wise Farm Preserve in Hopkins, MI. The Wise Farm Preserve is located east of Hopkins on the main road which goes thru Hopkins. It is 1 mile West of the highway or about 4 miles east of Hopkins. The entrance is off 15th street going south from 128th.

Cub Scout Day Camp is done and I must say, I'm exhausted. We had about 140 boys this year for the Holland Day Camp which is quite an increase over last year's 86. We had a great staff (including a few Boy Scouts) who were able to work well with these large groups. We made a few changes this year that I think were well received. Probably among the most welcome additions was the porta-potty out by the BB Gun & Archery ranges. :-)

We also added some new items to the programming. On day 2 the boys got to go fishing in the pond. Using bamboo cane poles they caught several blue gills and even some pretty good sized small-mouth bass. The boys really had a great time with this but as the day went on the fish got less hungry so they weren't biting as aggressively as they were at the beginning of the day.

Out at the BB Gun range on days 2 & 3, the boys had the opportunity to earn a patch for their marksmanship. The National Shooting Sports Foundation runs a program called the Junior USA Shooting Team. To become part of the team and earn a patch, the boys needed to score 35 points in 5 shots. We had several boys qualify. I haven't counted yet but I think it was between 60 & 70 boys that qualified.
